Degreed engineer, 2-5 plus years experience in drilling operations onshore or offshore domestic and/or international. Client interaction solving drilling and completion problems will be a key function of this job. Ability to learn and apply Standard DS-1® technology will be a priority requirement. Primary assignment based in Houston with opportunity for both short and long term international assignments to major and independent operators.
Experience in completions, platform and jack-up drilling, floating vessels and workovers preferred.
Candidates should be familiar with all forms of drill string and casing design/selection.
Proficiency in MS Office a must and knowledge of industry software for hydraulic, torque and drag calculations desirable.
Original technical writing sample(s) a must for interview consideration.

Because of continued growth and success, T H Hill Associates, Inc. is looking for qualified candidates to fill Failure Analyst positions domestically and internationally. The Failure Analyst will work in a small group of professionals dedicated to reducing non-productive time associated with drilling and completions equipment for an oil and gas operating company. The Failure Analyst will report to the Team Leader and to upper management within the operator’s ranks. These positions are considered challenging and critical to the success of the team’s efforts to reduce non-productive time. The role of the Failure Analyst requires sound engineering judgment, critical thinking skills, process development, mapping, and management, rapport building with vendors, and executive summary and report writing skills among others. Specific job functions include:
Conducting tool / equipment failure investigations according to a defined root cause failure investigation process map
Working with the tool / equipment vendors’ failure response teams and well delivery teams to:
- fully evaluate the actions and conditions that led to the failure
- develop and carry out a plan of action
- evaluate analysis findings
- ensure that corrective actions and recommendations can be implemented and are disseminated as necessary
- Preparing root cause failure analysis reports and delivering the key conclusions and recommendations to management
Prior to transitioning into a Failure Analyst position, extensive training will be provided wherein the candidate for Failure Analyst will work in a functioning group to gain insight into how the team functions, interacts, and demonstrates value. The Failure Analyst will be required to successfully conduct at least two analyses start-to-finish prior to transitioning to a full time assignment.
Experience, Skills, and Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
2+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry working as an Engineering Consultant, Tool Design or Support Engineer, or Failure Analyst
Knowledge of failure analysis protocols and ability to identify failure modes (fracture morphology and signatures, metallurgical investigation techniques)
Knowledge of drilling operations, processes, equipment used and purpose, and general insight into equipment functionality – particularly specialty tools (MWD / LWD, RSS, Motors and Turbines, Underreamers, Liner Hangers, Running / Setting Tools)
Metallurgical testing experience and experience evaluating and interpreting test results
Exceptional technical writing and communication skills

The Team Leader will report to upper management within the operator’s ranks and to the Vice President of Technical Services at T H Hill Associates, Inc. These positions are considered quite challenging and require critical thinking, process development, mapping, and management, personnel management, rapport-building with vendors, presentation development and delivery, database management, and metrics development and tracking among others. Specific job functions include:
Interfacing with operator management to provide updates and address issues and barriers
related to root cause failure analysis and the team’s progress and impact.
Interfacing with the management of equipment suppliers to promote the mutual benefits of
the team’s efforts to reduce non-productive time.
Supervise and support tool / equipment failure investigations and related efforts.
Supervise preparation of and delivery of all recommendations and conclusions required to
further reduce non-productive time and enhance upcoming operations.
Ensure that lessons learned are catalogued and disseminated as appropriate.
Work with, direct, and in some cases supervise the activity of field level quality assurance
personnel assigned to the team.
